It's Staff Spotlight day. This week our spotlight is Ms. Purtee. Ms. Purtee is a great addition to our staff. She works with our smallest pirates. She does this with unlimited patience and a giant smile and a great attitude. She has a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. We are truely blessed that she is part of our pirate family. Bio: My name is Becky Purtee and I am the Teacher’s Assistant in the Preschool classroom. I have the best job in the world because I get to help our littlest Pirates learn and grow. Preschool is such a fun age to teach. I enjoy coming to work every day because in Preschool, it is always an adventure. I started out teaching Riverside students through the Head Start program and then transitioned to the Riverside Preschool when it first opened to the community. So I have been teaching Pirates for 14 years. I help with the 9th Period program and Summer school as well. I also carry the title of Busy Sports Mom. I live in De Graff with my children Landon and Chloe. Landon is a Junior and Chloe is in 8th grade here at Riverside. I am grateful to work in the same building where my children attend school. They are both 3-sport athletes and we are always on the go. I am truly their biggest fan and loudest. When I am not at a sporting event; I enjoy reading a good book, being outdoors, random road trips, and spending time with my family and friends. My favorite meal is cooked by my Mom, which is salmon patties and fried potatoes. My favorite holiday would be Thanksgiving because it is a time to gather with family and remember how blessed I really am in life. My favorite vacation spot would be the beach. All my co-workers at Riverside are the best. We are a close knit group that makes coming to work enjoyable. I have worked with Molli Bell for many years and we take pride in being the foundation of learning at Riverside. The Riverside community is amazing. I am so glad to work and raise my children in this community. #PiratePride

Today, my kinders worked on the Math Talk "10 Plus Some More." 1st they had to write the # of slices they saw. Next we wrote the addition sentence then rewrote the equation. Last, I challenged them to write the subtraction sentence for the pic. Maggie is explaining her answer.

Student Council started the fundraiser today to help raise money to send to United Way to help with the Indian Lake Tornado Fund. Students have two more days to donate, and then on Friday the students that gave the most money will have the opportunity to throw a pie at the staff members that have the most money in their jars. Thank you to those that sent money already today, and a BIG thank you to the staff that volunteered to have a pie thrown at them.

Due to the weather forecast, we are going to cancel our After School 9th period program today. This will effect those elementary students that typically stay after school for that program. There have also been individual phone calls made to parents with students in the program.

When the students return from spring break, they will have the opportunity to participate in a fundraiser put on by Jr. High and High School Student Council from April 2nd-5th to send money to United Way to support Indian Lake Tornado Relief. All students will have the opportunity to give money throughout the week that will be added in a jar of their choice that contains the name of a Riverside Staff member they would like to see get a pie in the face! On April 5th, the staff with the most money in their jar will be presented on Friday for a group of students to splatter them with pies! This is a fun way to allow our students and community to help out such a serious situation. Any questions, please message Darcie Jenkins by going to the Riverside website, click on staff, and then her name.

Dear parents, When schools give students access to devices and online accounts, an incredible world of learning opportunities opens up — as well as potential dangers. Digital safety is critically important to Riverside Local Schools, which is why we are now using Bark for Schools to help us protect our students both online and in real life. Bark monitors for signs of potential issues like: Cyberbullying Suicidal ideation Sexual predators Threats of violence And more Alerts at the first signs of danger When possible dangers arise on school-issued accounts, Bark for Schools sends us alerts so we can address the situation in a timely manner. These alerts also give us insights that help us promote the wellness of the entire student body. Sign up to get alerts with Parent Portal Kids use their school-issued accounts both at school and at home, and families are often in a better position to respond to urgent alerts after hours, on weekends, and during breaks. In the coming days, parents of students grades 5-12 will receive an invitation to create your free account for the Bark for Schools Parent Portal. This is optional. As soon as you opt-in, you’ll be able to receive after-hours alerts if Bark detects potentially time-sensitive issues. Check out these parenting resources Visit the Bark Blog to stay informed on all things kids and tech. Download this guide for helpful tips on talking to your child about common issues.
