The 2024 JH Ohio Model United Nations (OMUN) Education Contest took place earlier this week in Columbus. Through the process of role-playing, Riverside JH students became delegates of Madagascar in order to write, present and debate issues affecting the nations and peoples of the world. Their resolution titled “It’s Raining Cats and Dogs” focused on the importance of animal health and lack of education in Madagascar. Riverside students influenced countries to adopt spaying, neutering and vaccines for these animals, as well as, purchasing education material for schools. Riverside students presented culturally based talent, participated in global education contests and debated current global issues. Valerie Knight earned an Outstanding Leadership Award. Congratulations to Riverside's JH OMUN for all their hard work!

Riverside Local School’s priority remains the safety and well-being of your children during both face-to-face and online interactions. Our school's network and Chromebooks are equipped with safeguards such as GoGuardian and Bark to minimize exposure to inappropriate content, monitor email correspondence, and ensure a focused learning environment 24/7. There is no product that we can implement that can/will catch 100% of content and issues.
With all of this in place, nothing can take the place of your supervision. We encourage you to have open conversations with your children about responsible and safe internet usage. Reinforcing proper online behavior and discussing the potential risks associated with unrestricted browsing can greatly contribute to their digital literacy and safety. It's an excellent opportunity to emphasize the importance of critical thinking and being respectful digital citizens.

Tonight my Elementary Student Council members worked on posters for the upcoming Father- Daughter dance and the Color Run hosted by the PTO. They all did a GREAT job but special PIRATE SHOUT OUT for Elena and April's artwork!!! WOW! ❤️✍️🏴☠️💙

We've been teaching Sources of Strength curriculum to grades 5 & 6 this year. Today they practiced some techniques to help regulate big, tricky emotions like sadness, anger, & anxiety. Playing with Ellie is definitely something that helps with those big emotions ♥️

Right to Read Week! Wear your yellow tomorrow!

To kick off our new reading unit on Animal Homes my Kinders did a Jigsaw activity. In expert groups they explored books about the rainforest & sorted animals that belonged/did not belong there. Back in home groups they collaborated to create their poster & then presented it. ❤️💙
