Today we are launching the new monthly elementary newsletter, "The Anchor"! We plan to utilize this monthly newsletter to communicate with parents, highlight our staff and students, and share upcoming events with our community. We wanted to honor Mr. Bryan by retiring "The Ship's Log", and we feel the time is right for our new edition! We plan to send "The Anchor" out at the beginning of each month, to recap the previous month, and keep our parents informed of the events taking place in the current month. We hope you enjoy our new edition, we look forward to sharing the great things happening in our school with our parents and families! Go Pirates!

School-Based Health Center and You
Let's celebrate your School-Based Health Center! The school is the primary location children spend most of their time. With school-based health care, students can connect with providers* in a way that minimizes overall disruption to their learning activities - including tardiness or early dismissals. Medical, Nutrition, Behavioral Health and Pharmacy services are available for staff, students, and their families. For more information about School-based Health Centers, visit: CHWPcares.org or call us at 937-599-1411
*Families maintain complete control over what health services their children receive or do not receive.

This year the elementary is working hard on syllable types. This is so new for me as a teacher, and I'm learning this new strategy with my students. Today my kiddos worked collaboratively to sort the words under the correct headings for the syllable types. We are growing!! ❤️☺️💙

More of my littles who have completed their piñatas got up in front of their classmates and shared their favorite part of making their project. It's important to have opportunities to share in front of each other and feel the security and support from their peers. RESPECT 💙🥰❤️

Staff Spotlight Day. This week we spotlight Mrs. Gonterman. She is the clam of our staff. Helping our students deal with the ups and down of being a kid, teen, young adult. With the help of her trusty sidekick Ellie, Mrs. Gonterman smiles her way into our students hearts with her caring and calming energy. I are so blessed that Mrs. Gonterman is a pirate. Thanks for all you do for us. Thanks for taking great care of us, and our Ellie.
1. What is your job title and description of what you do?
I’m the School Counselor at Riverside. I coordinate prevention programs and collaborate with outside agencies, parents, and staff to help provide necessary student care. I also conduct classroom lessons focused on student strengths, dating violence prevention, and other various topics. I wear many hats, but what I enjoy the most is working with students individually and in small groups.
2. How long with Riverside?
I began working at Riverside as a Substitute Teacher and then a Proficiency Test Tutor in 1996. In 1998 I started volunteering as a parent. In 2008 I became the Parent Coordinator and Project MORE Coordinator. I’ve been at my current position at Riverside since 2015.
3. Family?
My husband is Tim Gonterman. He is a blessing to me in so many ways. He never hesitates to help when asked. Over the years, he’s worked behind the scenes on countless projects here at Riverside.
We have 6 children. Four graduated from Riverside and two from Ben Logan. We have 5 grandchildren.
4. Hobbies?
Spending time with my family is what makes me the happiest. I also enjoy hiking and being in the woods. I’m the Event Coordinator at Myeerah Nature Preserve for several years now, and it doesn’t leave a lot of extra “down time”. My husband became the Caretaker at Myeerah after his retirement from Honda last year, so it’s been nice working and spending time together.
5. Favorites (food, holiday, etc)?
I suppose I have a lot of “favorites”. My favorite colors are pink, green, red and yellow. I love food, especially pizza, anything with spaghetti sauce, meat, cake frosting, and just about everything sweet and unhealthy. I love sparkling lights. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I put my tree up the first weekend of October.
6. Best Co-workers why?
My favorite co-workers are the ones who speak Life and pray with me. My favorite 4-legged co-worker is Ellie, our Therapy Dog.
What is it about Riverside that makes you want to stay a Pirate?
The reason I stay a Pirate is definitely because of our awesome students!!

Save the date of March 7 and please share this great opportunity for anyone in Logan County who has little ones not in school yet: expectant parents, parents, guardians, grandparents, other family members, babysitters, etc.

We would like to congratulate 1st grader, Bryce Wren, for winning the Logan County Auditor's Coloring Contest! We are so proud of him!

Our Riverside Family is invited to wear lavender this Thursday in honor of Chloe Hodge. Lavender was Chloe's favorite color and her memorial services will be held on Thursday. Please join us in this act of solidarity with our friends of Indian Lake for a life gone too soon.

Today we finished decorating our piñatas that we made on Friday. We loved this hands-on activity that helped us make connections, build vocabulary, & introduce us to our unit on cultures. We even figured out ways to make 10 to choose some of our candy for more math practice!❤️💙
